Report focuses on status of health care in Rural America, specifically focusing on: 1) The Health Status of Rural Residents; 2) The Use of Health Care Services in Rural and Urban Areas; 3) Barriers to health Care Services for Rural Residents; 4) The Scarcity of Physicians in Rural Areas; 5) The Vulnerability of Rural Hospitals; 6) Financial Barriers to Receiving Health Care; 7) The Role of Federal programs in providing access to care; 8) Community and Migrant Centers. Recommendations in this report focus on several programs that could improve rural residents’ access to health care- the National Health Service Corps, Community and Migrant health Center Programs, and Medicaid.
Researchers argue for along term restructuring of the health insurance system and a policy to insure that health care services are widely available if needed.
