RECOMMENDATIONS TO IMPROVE RELATIONS BETWEEN INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES AND LOCAL NEWS IN COLORADO

The Colorado News Collaborative’s Reach, Representation and Respect report calls out the historic harms of local news coverage that has too often silenced or stereotyped Indigenous communities. By centering Indigenous voices and offering concrete recommendations, the initiative models how journalism can shift from extractive practices toward authentic partnership and accountability. At Aspen CSG, we see this as part of the broader work of building community power: ensuring that historically excluded voices are not just represented but respected, and that rural and Native communities have the tools to tell their own stories and shape their futures.
