Affordable Housing Advances Rural Wellbeing

A safe and affordable home is crucial to advancing personal wellbeing for rural families, and an affordable housing market is vital to thriving rural communities.

We’ve gathered a few recent housing-related resources helpful for rural people and places:

  • Manufactured housing can be an affordable solution for developing housing in rural places. New resources from NeighborWorks and NextStep help rural organizations looking to develop manufactured housing. Their resources include a toolkit for working with community planning and council boards and a PowerPoint presentation for engaging non-profit boards on manufactured housing. Check out NextStep’s resource page for more affordable rural housing tools geared for developers and homebuyers.
  • Long a state and national leader in affordable housing, Aspen CSG first connected with the California Coalition for Rural Housing at our 2021 ROADS webinar focused on rural power building. They have developed an effective leadership training program that provides an entry point for young rural people of color to intern and then work as affordable housing developers – growing opportunities for young professional growth that, in turn, increases new housing opportunities for rural communities – a win-win.
