COLLABORATORY FOR INDIGENOUS DATA GOVERNANCE

The Collaboratory for Indigenous Data Governance (IDGov) is leading efforts to transform research, policy, and practice so that Indigenous Peoples can reclaim authority over their data and knowledge systems. Through initiatives like webinars on Tribal Data Sovereignty, the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance, and global collaborations such as the Global Indigenous Data Alliance (GIDA), the Collaboratory equips Tribal Nations with the tools, agreements, and frameworks needed to assert control over how information about their communities is collected, stored, and shared. By grounding its work in values of relationality, reciprocity, and accountability to ancestors and future generations, the Collaboratory models a sovereignty-centered approach to data ethics. This aligns closely with Aspen CSG’s focus on systems change—recognizing that equitable solutions require shifting power to communities to define and govern the data that shape their futures.
