BUILDING NARRATIVE POWER FOR ECONOMIC JUSTICE

This NPQ webinar brought together members of the BROKE Project—a collaboration between the Center for Public Interest Communications, RadComms, and Milli—to examine how stories about wealth and poverty shape power. Panelists highlighted how well-intentioned nonprofits and philanthropy often reproduce harmful narratives that blame individuals instead of systems, and they shared eight principles for telling stories that build movements and hold unjust systems accountable. Through case studies and practical insights, the conversation explored how narrative design, social science, and lived experience can be combined to advance economic justice. At Aspen CSG, we share this commitment to reshaping narratives so communities are seen not through deficits, but through power, resilience, and possibility. [Explore Aspen CSG’s narrative resources
