Making Policy Work for Rural Communities: The Value of Community Voice highlights how chronic underinvestment and policy barriers have long undermined rural areas, especially persistent poverty counties and communities of color. The authors show how community development financial institutions (CDFIs) rooted in place provide the patient capital, advocacy, and on-the-ground expertise needed to ensure rural voices shape policy and investment. Their stories demonstrate that when local knowledge and leadership are centered, resources flow more equitably and systems change becomes possible. This aligns with Aspen CSG’s mission to elevate rural leaders, dismantle structural barriers, and co-create pathways toward economic justice and shared prosperity.
