Black By God is a community-led news organization based in West Virginia, driven by the vision of Afrolachian storyteller Crystal Good to center Black and BIPOC experiences in Appalachia through journalism, multimedia, and community reporting. With initiatives like the Folk Reporters Program, investigative stories on rural opioid impacts, and culturally rich print and digital content, the platform fills critical information gaps left by mainstream media. By amplifying underrepresented voices, honoring regional heritage, and empowering everyday citizens to contribute reporting, Black By God models Aspen CSG’s commitment to rooted, asset-based storytelling and local leadership in service of resilient, inclusive rural futures.
