What is RUFES?
RuFES is short for Rural Family Economic Success—a collection of initiatives spearheaded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation (AECF). Casey's RuFES work focuses on helping rural families increase their income, stabilize their finances, acquire assets and build wealth. It does this by energizing and informing “action leaders” from across the country to implement RuFES strategies in the places they care about. For more information about RuFES, see the AECF RuFES home page.
Who are RuFES Alumni?
You are a RuFES Alumni if, sometime since 2003, you participated—most likely with a team from your organization or region—in a Strengthening Rural Families Action-Learning Institute or Site Visit to a Center of RuFES Excellence, which was cosponsored by AECF and one of its partner organizations. The Aspen Institute Community Strategies Group (CSG) coordinated the event, and you developed a RuFES Action Plan that you took back home—to act on!
What is the RuFES Alumni Network?
The RuFES Alumni Network is a place where RuFES Alumni and other interested “Friends of RuFES” gather virtually (via the web) and sometimes in person to share their experiences with each other and learn more about how they can boost the economic success of families in their communities. The RuFES Alumni Network is sponsored the Annie E. Casey Foundation and coordinated by the Aspen Institute Community Strategies Group.
Can I join the Network if I didn’t attend a RuFES event?
Anyone interested in RuFES can join the RuFES Alumni Network as a “Friend of RuFES.” Friends of RuFES receive e-mail communications like RuFES Roundup! and may receive invitations to participate in select RuFES opportunities, gatherings and events if space is available after Alumni are accommodated. Some RuFES opportunities, gatherings and events are limited to Alumni only.
